The 69 & 912 Center-Rule Bench Squares will Make your work Better

The 69 and 912 Center-Rule Bench Squares have a 1-1/2″ wide body and a 1″ wide tongue. The numbers represent the length of the tongue and body in inches. Both body and tongue, front and back, have zero point rulings on the inner and outer edges. One of the key features is the Center-Rule Scale along the center of each leg—front and back. The Center-Rule makes these squares perfect when centerline datums are necessary. They also come in handy for remodel jobs, working with wanky stock or recycled wood and when using a centerline layout method. If maintaining natural curves and/or irregularities in the stock is desired—but need to maintain a strict centerline datum—the Chappell Center-Rule Bench Squares is the perfect tool for the job.

All Chappell Square Bench Squares are available in Imperial 1/16 Inch Ruling, The Chappell Decimal .05 Inch Ruling, and Metric Ruling. So, make sure to specify the ruling when you place your order.

Increase Your Layout Flexibility

When performing layout, the Chappell Bench Squares can work in tandem with our larger Framing Squares. By nesting the squares one-to-the-other on the piece of work, datum locations and offsets from the primary datum or datum line, can easily and accurately be located. This is especially helpful in making perpendicular setbacks or parallel layout on rafters or any members requiring angle cuts.

Choose Your Ruling

Chappell Square Center-Rule Bench Squares are available in Imperial 1/16 Inch Ruling, Chappell Decimal .05 Inch Ruling, and Metric Ruling. Make sure to specify the ruling when you place your order.

A note about the Chappell Decimal Inch Ruling

The Chappell Decimal Inch Rulings are a natural favorite for Stair Builders and Machinists. By following their reasoning for this, you’ll quickly understand why it make perfect sense for carpenter and builders as well. By adding a set of Chappell Bench Squares to the 1824 Master Framer and 1218 Traveler, you’ll have a complete and seamless layout system. The decimal ruling is divided by the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 inch, and further into .05 inches. By combining fractional and decimal units seamlessly—there’s no need to convert back and forth from fractional to decimal units. The decimal units can be applied directly to the Decimal Inch Scale, and easily utilized using simple arithmetic when determining length factors.

Base 10 Decimal System
The beauty of the Base-10 Decimal System will be understood within only a few hours of working with it, and really kicks in once you realize that each ruling can be considered simply as 5. We all learn to count by 5 in grade school, so it’s an easy matter to arrive at 25. On the decimal inch scale, this equals .25 or 1/4 inch. In practice, the default language for this is to simply call each ruling a Chappell. So when you’re co-worker confirm a measurement as 7 Chappells, you’ll inherently understand it to be .35, because 7×5 equals 35, being .35 on the scale.
